2021 Varsity Team Named

We are pleased to announce the 2021 HHS Varsity team. A lot of players have been working hard all year to make this team, and there were a number of very qualified candidates who were not named to the Varsity.  It helps some that there are spots on all four of our teams for anyone who wants to play, but nevertheless we salute those who weren't named this year and accepted that judgment with good grace.  The 25 players named to the team owe it to them to work hard to show that they deserved to be the ones. We are reserving the right to name one more player to this group on Tuesday, after reviewing a few more players.

Over the next few days, we will be providing a lot of information to help all players and parents be ready for the start of the season, which is one week away.  A week from Friday, the Varsity and JV1 will open their seasons on the road at Concord.  The next Monday, the first day of school, the Freshman will walk out of school and onto the bus for a road trip to Manchester Memorial.  The following day, the JV2 will travel to Sunapee, and the Varsity and JV1 will open the home season, hosting Exeter.  Both games will start at 6:15, since that's the earliest that Exeter can arrive.  We'll hope to get most of the JV1 game in before dark.  The Varsity game will be on the turf, under the lights, and we are expecting a pretty decent crowd.  Full season schedules will be posted here very shortly.

Here's a look at the next three days.  On Friday, all players in the program will train at the Pasture (again, that's what we call the Dresden fields, for obvious reasons) form 10:00 - Noon.  The Varsity will be prepping for a scrimmage Saturday at Oyster River, the defending D2 champions.  Game is at 5:00, departure at 2:30.  We haven't named the JV1 team yet, and a pool of candidates for that team will be preparing for a Saturday trip to Manchester West for two shorter scrimmages in a jamboree format.  The roster will be named after the morning practice tomorrow.  The bus will leave at 10:00.  The first game is at Noon.

On Sunday, all players are off except the Varsity, which will depart HHS for their annual trip to the Windridge Camp, a 24-hour retreat which will include an afternoon scrimmage, some pool time, team meetings, and an evening campfire with s'mores.  Of course.  Its camp.  On Monday, while the Varsity is making a return from camp, all of the others will train at the Pasture from 10:00 - Noon, proving Hurricane Henri isn'r making his presence felt.  This is when we expect to greet a dozen or so players, all candidates for all three sub-Varsity teams, who are staring their journeys with us.  All players will train Monday afternoon, weather permitting, and we will name the JV1 team Monday night.  They will jump right into action on Tuesday and Wednesday, hosting two Varsity teams.  On Tuesday they will play Woodsville on the turf at 6:00, and on Wednesday they will host Rivendell at the Pasture at 4:00.

The Varsity will continue traveling to Vermont on Wednesday, making the trek to Manchester, home of the best outlet shopping in northern New England, and play two friendlies against Burr and Burton Academy and Mount Anthony Union High School.  The venue will be Applajack Stadium, purported to be the best pitch in all of Vermont. It should be fun to see new faces in a new place, and continuing to train and play on grass will help us prep for the opener at Concord at Memorial Field on opening day.

That's it for now.  We hope by now most of you have found the blog.  Please feel free to email with questions and comments. Here's the Varsity:
