Freshman Boys Win Opener 2-0; Three Teams Play Tuesday; Parent/Player Meeting Wednesday

The Freshman team opened the season in fine style, winning a 2-0 victory at Manchester Memorial.  What a good way to celebrate the first day of school!  Gavin Munson scored a pair of goals and the Hanover defense was airtight, led by The Two Sams (Ames and McDonnell).  The Two Henrys (Cotter and Steffen) shared the shutout win goal, with the former doing the heavy lifting with several good saves in the early going.

Hanover took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the match when Munson hit a left footed shot from the left side, beating the Memorial keeper to the near post.  Memorial held a significant territorial advantage, but the Hanover defense absorbed the pressure and kept their shape, and the score remained the same until two minutes were left in the first half, thanks to several good plays by Cotter, who was quick off his line several times.  Just before the half, Munson took advantage of some careless play by the Crusader keeper, sneaking up on him and stealing the ball, easily tapping it into the open net.

The second hals was more desultory (look it up, students), with few offensive opportunities and less precision, but that suited Hanover just fine.  The visitors saw the game off, adding a fifth defender in the late going to seal the win, the first for Coach Ned Harris.

Tuesday will be a busy day for all four teams:

JV2 plays at Sunapee at 5:00.  The bus will leave right after school.  Gather in the Athletic hallway,  change, have a snack at the picnic table outside, clean up your trash, and hop on the bus!

Freshmen train at Dresden 3:00 - 5:30.  The practice bus will leave HHS at 3:45, and return at 6:00 after practice.

Both JV1 and Varsity play Exeter at home at 6:15.  Both teams should come early, fully dressed in maroon uniforms, and come to the Grass Field at 5:00 sharp for team photos and head shots. Please be on time!

There will be a meeting for all players and parents on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the HHS Turf Field.  Parents and players are invited to gather in the bleachers to meet the coaching staff, hear about team policies and procedures, and have the opportunity to ask questions.  The meeting will run no later that 6:42 p.m. We hope every family will be represented.  Since we're outdoors, there is no reason we can't throw door prizes into the crowd. It's possible that we will be throwing Skittles (in bags, of course), aimed at younger family members who were dragged to a boring meeting against their will.

Several players have been assiduous in trying to contact their respective coaches.  It makes sense to publish their email addresses.  Here they are:

Varsity Head Coach Rob Grabill:  coachgrabill@gmail.com

JV1 Head Coach Willie Johnson: williamjohnson@hanovernorwichschools.org

JV2 Head Coach Ian Caldwell: ianmaclarencaldwell@gmail.com

Freshman Coach Jason Hirschhorn: jasonhirschhorn@hanovernorwichschools.org
