JV1 and Varsity Begin a Four-Game Road Trip at Keene
The JV1 and Varsity teams will begin a delightful week on Tuesday will provide them the opportunity to nestle 50 players into a school bus four times in the next seven days. The series of sojourns will begin with a trip South to Keene, for a pair of 4:30 matches. Dismissal from school is at 2:00, and departure is at 2:10, allowing an ample 10 minutes to change and have a quick snack at the iconic picnic table outside. Players planning on returning to school on the bus after the game should perhaps consider leaving school backpacks in the school building to save a little space on the bus. Both teams will repeat the process on Thursday, Saturday and Monday.
Parents planning to attend the games at Keene (43 Arch Street, Keene NH 03431) are advised that Keene High School is requiring all visiting spectators to fill out an online COVID Screening Form. Here is the link to the Keene Athletics page, which has a link to the form: https://khs.keeneschoolsnh.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1260288&type=d&pREC_ID=1458579
The JV2 and Freshman teams will train at Dresden (along with the JV2 girls) in preparation for games at the end of the week. We have neglected to report on Friday's excellent match between these two, so here is a quick synopsis:
The Freshmen, 22 strong, outnumbered the JV2 squad by a nearly 2/1 margin, but the old folks were more than able to compensate. The Freshmen struck first, 20 minutes into the first half, when Schuyler Clapp found time an space from 20 yards out to hit a superb shot that chipped Alex Brackett in goal (trust us, that's some serious chipping) and found the far side netting for a 1-0 lead. The Freshmen threatened several times through Gavin Munson on the left flank, where he battled Blake Bouchard all afternoon. Sam McDonnell and Lionel Ndong were defensive mainstays for the Frosh.
Berkeley Chamberlain was outstanding for the JV2s up top, and Jack Wilkinson was a force at holding CM, working hard box to box. Wyatt Sklarin has a great day on defense. Fifteen minutes from the end, the JV2s broke through on a great run by Patrick Donegan down the right side. Donegan's centering pass found Simon Taenzer alone at the far post, and Simon converted clinically to tie the match. Both teams had good looks before the match ended, and it is clear that this rivalry will continue to produce excellent soccer all season.
