JV2 Continues Their Excellent Play, Tying Sunapee 1-1

The Hanover JV2 boys played some of their most impressive soccer of the season in a tough 80 minutes Thursday night. Their opponents, Sunapee, were looking forward to this fixture having brushed aside this JV2 squad 9-2 in their previous meeting. Much like their previous few matches, Hanover was never going to give Sunapee an easy time, and straight from kickoff took the ball into their opponent’s end where it would stay for the opening 10 minutes. Captain and Striker Alex Brackett was the center of the action and his combination play with Will Taylor sent the later into space down the right where Taylor hit an early ball across the box to an on rushing Simon Taenzer. The talismanic Junior took two strides to steady himself before dispatching the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, 1-0 Hanover.

The rhythm of the match remained relatively constant and it seemed for every chance on net that Sunapee had, Hanover had two. A midfield master class from Liam Foston, Trevor Lichtenstein, Jack Wilkinson, and Aaron Nyhan let the forwards have ample time on the ball all match, though the Sunapee defense was a tough nut to crack. Blake Bouchard, who had another excellent evening (are we surprised at this point?) beat two Sunapee players to the ball on the right flank before finding Will Taylor, though Taylor hit a weak shot into the arms of the Sunapee keeper.

Goalkeeper Iver Skogerboe made an assortment of spectacular saves tonight, most notably a quick-fire double save against two point blank shots to maintain his team’s lead. The Sophomore keeper grows in stature and confidence each minute he’s on the field, and has only contributed to our ever-growing defense. Wyatt Sklarin made a number of last-ditch tackles to keep his side in the game and the CB duo of Ashton and Chou had another night calmness at the back. Patrick Donegan put in another wonderful shift at Striker tonight as well, Donegan tireless running pulls our team through slow spells of the match almost single-handed.

Sunapee did finally manage to snag a goal back with a well taken shot from the top of the box by their stalwart #13, a player who caused us many more problems in the previous match, but the boys did wonderfully tonight to keep him quiet.

A great result for the JV2 boys that left their coach in near-tears of pride on the sideline. This side has come so very far from the first training session and can certainly take their game even further this season. On to the next, a Saturday home match against Woodsville at 1:00 on the HHS Turf.
