All four HHS boys teams gathered Wednesday night to celebrate the season, recognizing every player and honoring a number of award winners. Freshman coaches Jason Hirschhorn and Ned Harris gave out a number of "fun" awards, and cited nine players, all listed below. JV2 Coach Ian Caldwell praised his team for its growth over the course of the season, playing a full schedule after last year's limited slate of games. JV1 Coach Willie Johnson composed his annual limerick, detailing the highlights of the season. Varsity Coach Rob Grabill praised Associate Head Coach Sam Farnham for his contributions, and noted the success of the team in ten years of Division One play. In one of the more astonishing games in Hanover's long history, the Varsity trailed Bishop Guertin by three goals with 27 minutes to play, and scored eight goals, including five in a five-minute span, to beat the Cardinals 8-3. The win gives Hanover am 11-3-1 record and all but locks them into a top four spot in the Division One standings, providing they can get a result in Thursday's Senior Day clash with Winnacunnet. Going into the match with Bishop Guertin, a team likely to finish out of the playoffs, Hanover expected to score a lot of goals and play everyone on the team. Hanover responded to the challenge of a tough week, returning to their home turf and delivering a solid 3-0 victory overt Portsmouth on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, Hanover scored three times in a thirteen minute stretch, with two goals by Jack Gardner and the game-winner by Oscar. Each striker hit the three-goal mark, and the Hanover defense in front of goalkeeper Ty Nolon recorded their third shutout of the season. Charged with focusing on defense in the opening minutes, having conceded goal in the first five minutes of two of their last three games, Hanover nevertheless came within inches of falling behind again, this time inside the first two minutes. Frank Coviello found a weak spot in the Hanover back eight and got off a hard shot.
