JV1 Wins for Willie; Bucket and the Boys Beat Londonderry 4-1

The Hanover JV boys kicked-off their long weekend away from school with a thrilling 4-1 result over the visiting Londonderry Lancers.

Eager to impress interim JV coach Bucket, filling in today for Coach Willie Johnson, the Hanover boys jumped out of the gate running and managed to lock Londonderry in their own half for the first 5 minutes. Ian Press left a calling card with a rocket of a strike from the top of the box. Unfortunately, his shot cannoned off the inside of the far post and somehow stayed out of the net. Veer Patel, who excelled all night, then sent a dangerous cross across the face of Londonderry's net, though nobody in Maroon was there to tap in.

Finally, after 15 minutes of heavy pressure from Hanover, Ian Press managed to slide Soren Stettenheim through on goal. He took his 1 v 1 with the keeper perfectly, rounding the keeper and calmly dribbling the ball across the line into an empty net, 1-0 Hanover. The next ten minutes were more of the same. Hanover pressed through the hard work of forwards Soren Stettenheim and Sam Calderwood. From there, the entire midfield four would back them up to win any loose balls, and Hanover's defensive line was ever-ready to recieve any Londonderry clearances. At least, that's what we thought until a HUGE punt from the Londonderry keeper flew behind the Hanover team and was collected then deposited into the back of the net by a pacy Lancer striker. Twenty five minutes gone, 1-1.

After the restart, Hanover managed to win the ball back immediately and win a free-kick just inside their opponents defensive third. Aidan Bradley, who was just subbed onto the field of play, found himself unmarked at the back post and finished off an Ian Press delivery for his first goal and first touch of the match. 2-1 Hanover.

Just moments later, Henry Werner, oozing skill all night, danced his way into the left side of Londonderry's box from a through ball by Liam Wordern, before cutting inside of the last defender and beating the keeper with a strong snap-shot into the near post. A beautiful move by the young attacker, Henry. The JV boys were determined not to let their lead slip away this time around and finished off the half the same way they played for the opening twenty minutes. Lots of hard work from all eleven players to remain goal-side of their opponents and forcing them into mistakes, before taking off on a dangerous counter attack themselves.

The second half started much like the first, Ian Press launched a ball deep into Londonderry's half before the rest of the Hanover boys marched into the half and set-up shop outside the Lancer's 18-yard-box. Londonderry defended well for 30 minutes of Hanover pressure before finally, Soren Stettenheim found some space in behind the back line and rounded the keeper again before smashing the ball home from 2 yards out. 4-1 Hanover.

Though the scoring was done for the night, the boys were not done working. Impressive and hard-worked displays from Joseph Umwizeye, Sayan C., Joseph Rudd, Nick Reiss, Ian Smith, and many more allowed Hanover to have plenty of time on the ball to round out the match. The boys all tirelessly worked to win every 50-50 ball, a feat that takes a great deal of  commitment and comradery. Well played to everyone tonight, and thank you for making my job (Coach Bucket) a bit easier with all your efforts tonight. On to the next!  Practice at 4:00 at Dresden, and then a 7:00 SHARP departure Saturday for a 10:00 match at Dover.
