Derby Day and Bedford Prep

 It's been a good first week of school in so many respects, in and out of the building.  After a frenetic first two days, all four teams settled down for two good days of training, in preparation for end of the week matches.  On Friday at The Pasture, a longstanding local rivalry will resume with the first of several grudge matches between the Freshmen and JV2.  They have scrimmaged a few times during tryouts, but now both teams have their rosters locked in, and have established identities, and are ready to rumble.  The teams will warm up and play under match conditions. They follow follow the longstanding tradition of making their own calls.  By now we have conclusively demonstrated that no refs are better than officials who aren't equipped to follow the pace and physicality of Division One futbol.  So, to both teams:  take the match seriously and honor the game.

JV1 and Varsity both with hard-earned 2-0 records, will host Bedford on Saturday. Over the years, the Bulldogs have shown themselves to be one of the class programs in New Hampshire.  The Varsity boys had an epic match against Bedford in the Division One tournament, beating the Bulldogs 1-0 on a highlight goal by Jacob Kubik-Pauw.  Ty Nolon earned the shutout, and authored an epic save in the early going to keep the game winnable.

Please note that the starting times for both games has been moved to 10:00 a.m.  Spread the word to everyone you know, and join us for some high-quality soccer.

All sub varsity teams will have both Sunday and Monday off.  The Varsity will train at Dresden on Monday at 4:00, prepping for their Tuesday match at Keene.  Looking ahead, both JV1 and Varsity will have back to back road trips to northern Vermont next Thursday and Saturday, playing against the two top teams in the state, Champlain Valley and Essex.  More on that later.  For now, the focus will be on Bedford, and training well on Friday. We control what we can control.

 In one of the more astonishing games in Hanover's long history, the Varsity trailed Bishop Guertin by three goals with 27 minutes to play, and scored eight goals, including five in a five-minute span, to beat the Cardinals 8-3.  The win gives Hanover am 11-3-1 record and all but locks them into a top four spot in the Division One standings, providing they can get a result in Thursday's Senior Day clash with Winnacunnet. We're Back in the DR! The 2022 Trip Diary Begins

 Dear Friends and Supporters of DR Projects - This is the first in a series of Blog Posts for the DR Projects trip in April, 2022.  I'm hiding out as part of the 2019 trip blog because I am not getting along with Blogspot with regard to starting a brand new blog.  We'll make sure that everyone finds their way to this one!  After two successful trips in 2019 (the one chronicled here below and the one led later in the year by Frank Perotti), we had big plans for our next trip in 2020, with the particular goal, of continuing the reading program at the Altagracia elementary school in Cotui.  Everything was in place:  we had seen the curriculum in action, we had two dedicated teachers, and we had a cadre of volunteers ready to take things to the next level.  On a larger scale in the DR, our ally and inspiring role model Juan Valdez, was making significant progress in his visionary goal of helping every underserved child in his country to learn English. Central Beats Varsity Boys 1-0 in Playoff Preview

 The longstanding tradition of this blog is to always, always write a game story the same day (or night) of the game.  Never, never put it off, no matter what.  Always report the game result, win or lose.  Never mind if it's a night game (and thank goodness in this case it doesn't come after a long bus ride home).  Never mind how early the alarm will ring on Saturday.  Never mind if the Sox bullpen is blowing the lead in the background.  Never mind if the game was exciting and well-played and competitive, while also being excruciatingly frustrating, with marginal behavior by the opponents, and irksome officiating by officials overwhelmed by the moment.  So, here's the story: Hanover hosted Manchester Central, always a team full of talented players.  Central came into the game with a solid 12-1-1 record, with only a loss to Nashua South and a tie with Manchester Memorial in their rivalry game.  Central won the game 1-0.  After an eve...
