Varsity Home Game Thursday at 4:00 Has Something For Everyone
The final stretch of regular season games for the Varsity is an exciting one, with four of the five involving teams in the top eight places in the NHIAA Division One standings. Hanover, sitting in a tie for third, has the opportunity to decide their own fate against quality opposition. First up is Thursday's home game against 8-3 Londonderry at 4:00 at Megriman-Branch Field.
Hanover will have a lot of guests at the game. The Lyme 5th-6th grade team will serve as balls runners, and are hoping for a little pre-game scrimmage time on the hallowed turf. In the meantime, we are expecting as many as 100 Lightning Soccer Academy youth players. Who knows what will happen when that mob is loosed on the turf by Bill Miles at halftime. Hanover will be obligated to play good, crisp soccer with all of these young eyes watching.
Beginning Thursday, all of our home games will sponsor food drives for The Haven. We are asking all spectators to bring non-perishable food items, which will be taken to the Haven Food Pantry. We're hoping all blog readers will spread the word, and help us to get off to a good start.
The Hanover team will be wearing purple socks on Thursday in recognition of our participation in the Walk for Alzheimers. We had a number of players representing several of our teams participating in the Walk last Saturday, and we are hoping for a few more donations to put this effort over the top.
Finally, an exciting update on our fundraising for the CROP Hunger Walk, which takes place this Sunday on Lebanon at 1:00: We have invited a number of Hanover athletes to participate, and the Varsity team has taken on some significant leadership. With a number of days to go, the Varsity has already raised over $2,500. We are well on our way to reaching our very ambitious $4,000 goal. The overall Walk is well on the way to raising more than $10,000. A significant portion of the amount will stay right in the Upper Valley to support local hunger efforts. It's definitely not too late to participate or donate. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, contact any HHS Varsity player. You can also donate online, at this link: https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/lebanonnh. Once on the site, simply search for "Hanover Athletics". Even if you don't donate, EVERYONE is welcome to walk on Sunday. Registration opens at 12:30 at Colburn Park in Lebanon. It's a leisurely 4K walk through downtown Lebanon, onto the rail trail for a brief stretch, and then under the mall through the new tunnel and back to the bandstand at Colburn Park. Come take a walk and support a good cause. Families are welcome!
