Welcome to October Soccer
The calendar has turned to October, and we are embarking on the most exciting time of the season, especially since all four of our boys teams are fully functional, and playing better soccer week after week. This week has some excellent challenges ahead.
We're keeping an eye on Monday's weather, but once we get to October, we are more willing to chew up the turf at Dresden, so teams can expect to be training in the rain, unless there is lightning (of course) or a monsoon. It could well be a monsoon during the afternoon time slot, and we will make a final call by Noon. At this time of year, players should always carry a kitchen garbage bag in their back pack so they can keep their gear dry. They should consider always having a dry tee shirt to change after a wet session, and they definitely need to start wearing sweats and carrying a rain jacket for wet days.
The JV2 crew, which played very well against a loaded Woodsville team on Saturday, will head to Fall Mountain on Tuesday. We would love to have parent volunteers to provide snacks for the interval between dismissal and departure. We want to continue to adhere to the guidance about no eating on busses whenever possible. Please contact Coaches Grabill or Bucket.
The Freshmen will travel to Dover for their longest trip of the season this Wednesday. We really appreciate Coach Hirschhorn's note about the CROP Walk next Sunday. We will be encouraging all players on all HHS teams to participate in this worthwhile event.
On Thursday, the Varsity and JV1 will be hosting Londonderry for 4:00 matches. The schedule we sent Friday indicated that the JV1 game would be on the turf. It is, in fact, on the grass. We'll fix the schedule on the blog. The Varsity will be wearing new purple socks to support the Walk for Alzheimer's. The Walk happened last Saturday, and we were delighted to see how many players participated, but we are still raising money for this effort.
Since there is no school on Friday, there may be alterations to the practice schedule. We are hoping to get the Freshmen onto the turf to practice for their Saturday home game against Pinkerton. Stay tuned.
The Varsity and JV will depart bright and early at 7:00 for important games at Dover on Saturday, and the Freshmen will kick off at 9:00 against Pinkerton.
Finally, the CROP Walk takes place at 1:00 in Lebanon on Sunday, Oct. 10, with registration beginning at 12:30. It's a gentle 4K walk, and a nice chance to stretch out after games the day before. Players can raise money on line all week, and we will be continuing to brief them on how best to participate.
Enjoy the week!
